I absolutely love the jewelry box. It is the right size and color, plus very versitile. I love the side doors. It is well made and extremely attractive. I saw one at twice the cost and it was not half as nice as this one. So glad I purchased it.

I ordered 4 of these chests for my daughters based on solid reviews from Amazon and elsewhere.
When I opened the shipping box, I could not have been more disappointed. First, the top had a noticeable chip on it. It had to be there prior to being packed as I carefully took off the foam wrap. Shows poor quality control by the manufacturer.
There was another noticeable off-color blemish on the face of the chest.
More importantly, the chest just looks & feels cheap in every way. I asked my husband what he thought from about 5 feet away and he said, "It looks cheap."
I can't in good faith give this jewelry box as a gift - to anyone - so they're being shipped back on Monday.
I will not give Mele a second look when it comes to quality jewelry boxes based upon this very disappointing experience.

This jewelry box is the only one that I was able to fit all my jewelry in. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I wish the drawers had more dividers in them. Otherwise great buy!

This jewelry box is of great quality and the workmanship is superb. The design makes it a functional piece to store ones jewelry and a lovely piece to own. The only reason I did not keep this is the color, it is more yellow than brown and clashed terribly with my bedroom furniture. I did think about keeping it and putting it in the closet, but it's too nice to be hidden. Please get this in a darker shade of Oak just like the picture depicts.

I've been looking for a jewelry box for quite some time. I was familiar with this brand and I read the reviews. Despite a few of the negative comments that were repeated by several reviewers, I really loved the look of this and decided to give it a try anyway. I had to laugh at the card that was enclosed that stated they were a family-owned company for over 100 years(I forget the actual number but it was close to that number). Then I noticed the Made in China. I think the "family" has chosen cheap and let down their ancestors...I should say that I lived in China and the people of China are the most hard-working people I have ever seen. But they are not trained well, work horribly long hours for 6 or 7 days a week for so little pay and usually no benefits; that they literally live hour by hour. It was very hard to see the way they have to live. I do not blame them for the faults of this product. I blame the Mele Company.
It was a very pretty jewelry box though the color was more "orange" than what the picture showed. On the very top of my box was a black mark-about the size of a half dollar but irregular shaped. It could have just been part of the piece of wood but since it was the only mark like that on the entire box and was in such a noticeable spot, it should have been tossed in the trash but it wasn't. One of the complaints about it was that there were no drawer stops. I thought that I wouldn't find that much of an issue and I wouldn't have if the drawers had been snug. They weren't. In fact, they were so loose that just trying to pull them open gently, the whole drawer would just come right out. It's like they were too small for the opening. I just knew that at some point either I or my daughter would open a drawer and eventually it was going to end up falling on the tile floor. That would be the end of that drawer!
I'm sorry that the Mele Co. doesn't seem to care anymore about honoring their previously good name. It wouldn't take much to improve their quality and if it meant a little bit more money for their products, I would have a new jewelry box but I packed it back up within 10 minutes of opening it and shipped it back that week.
