1Frustration  Nov 30, 2008
By Jethro
The motor is pretty cool, but that's about it. My 6-year-old son was excited to have a K'nex truck, but he couldn't build it himself, so I had to help. The instructions are OK, but not as good as Lego products -- and the "Lego-style" bricks will not stay together for anything, and come apart in the middle of building. When you go to repair the broken section, another part self-destructs. If you do finally get the truck together, you will be attempting to rebuild it within minutes.

Save yourself the frustration and buy your kid something actually made by Lego.

1Frustration is an understatement  Mar 02, 2009

Tried to do this several times over the last few months with my 5-year-old son and have never gotten the "lego" style pieces to fit and stay together. We were going to get some crazy glue out tonight to try to get them to stay, but he lost interest after it kept falling apart when we'd start the next step. I will be throwing the whole thing away after he goes to sleep tonight.

2Frustrating Series  Dec 22, 2008

We have all four sets from this Knex line. Compared to other Knex sets these are not nearly as good. The idea is good but they do nto stay together well and the reason we bought all 4 sets was so they could build the big model. They are good for imagination and building other things but be ready if your child gets frustrated because after their hard work parts fall apart unlike their Lego sets that can go through days of play with what they built and not fall apart. They have built all four vehicles and each has had issues with pieces coming apart. Short of gluing not sure how to make them stick better.
I would never pay more than $8 a set for these things.
THey are good for adding pieces to your other sets but again do not expect them to be like Legos.

5Better for Slightly Older Kids - Age 7 or 8+  Apr 02, 2011

My son received this years ago but he is about 10 now and really liked it. He likes building, and he likes vehicles, so he said it was cool. It kept him occupied (though he did not build it straight through -- he worked on it for awhile, then came back to it, etc.) and he kept it in his room when he was done. I thought that was a good process and result.

5Collect All!  Mar 03, 2011

My son is very into K'nex. He has dozens of sets. Collecting all of these to make the mega truck is so worth it!!!
