2an hour of frustration & then it's broken  Jan 03, 2010
My 5 year old son was given this toy. While it is rated for 5+, there is no way a 5 year old could put this together; my husband spent an hour putting this together with the only partially helpful directions. There are many, many parts to this, some being incredibly small--- for sure a choking hazard. Even when put together, this truck is not very strong structure-wise & the parts easily come apart, and not in a good way. Literally, the truck came apart within 10 minutes of play by my son who was very sad about that. Only a very focused 5 year old who is super careful would get any play time out of this -- I'm not sure how many of that kind of 5 year old exists! I've never met one! For 5 yr old boys who like to build, this is far too complicated a project, so there's no educational factor at all. While he enjoyed playing with it while it was together (loading it up with other Matchbox cars & etc), it didn't last long. So, zero fun, zero education, and zero durability. A zero overall. This toy also seems like it is a Leggo wanna-be. In our view, a waste. Keep looking.

1Poor quality  Dec 30, 2009
I bought this one, and the car for my 6 year old. I like the idea of the toy and was obsessed with my legos growing up. The typical lego-style pieces in both kits are JUNK! They do not stay together well at all. I ended up building the thing and could barely get it together without it falling apart. The non-lego-style pieces are great.

I do not recommend this to anyone!

1Frustration is an understatement  Mar 02, 2009
Tried to do this several times over the last few months with my 5-year-old son and have never gotten the "lego" style pieces to fit and stay together. We were going to get some crazy glue out tonight to try to get them to stay, but he lost interest after it kept falling apart when we'd start the next step. I will be throwing the whole thing away after he goes to sleep tonight.

2Frustrating Series  Dec 22, 2008
We have all four sets from this Knex line. Compared to other Knex sets these are not nearly as good. The idea is good but they do nto stay together well and the reason we bought all 4 sets was so they could build the big model. They are good for imagination and building other things but be ready if your child gets frustrated because after their hard work parts fall apart unlike their Lego sets that can go through days of play with what they built and not fall apart. They have built all four vehicles and each has had issues with pieces coming apart. Short of gluing not sure how to make them stick better.
I would never pay more than $8 a set for these things.
THey are good for adding pieces to your other sets but again do not expect them to be like Legos.

5Great imagination builder  Dec 18, 2008
My 8 year old son loves knex!! He has the semi truck, dump truck, and pick-up truck, not to mention all of the other sets that he has too! He will sit down for hours building and rebuilding. He is absolutely fascinated by these blocks. He actually prefers the knex over legos even though you can combine the two. He first started building with these at 7, and has needed no help figuring out the directions or the pictures.
